| You should post this in diet, nutrition and weight loss. There are many of us with experience with GLP-1s there and can tell you about them without judgement and our experiences. Older teens will be more similar to many adults and maybe there are some with experience with their teens on that forum. |
It still amazes me when people don't understand this isn't the issue. I have a teen that eats 4000 calories in a sitting and gains zero weight |
Yes, this is why I told OP to post on the diet and nutrition forum. I’m on one of the shots because I was eating 1200 calories a day and not losing weight. Something was obviously wrong with my metabolism or insulin or body makeup even though I did NOT have diabetes. This was a medical issue. I have a kid who is like yours, who can eat and eat and eat, easily 4000 calories and not gain anything. She wears a size 2. It doesn’t matter if she exercises or doesn’t. |
It matters to her heart, lungs, bone density, etc. |
No it doesn’t, not if my doctor is recommending this diet to keep weight up, and to increase fat. |
You should ask your doctor about exercise. There’s also a big difference between 4000 calories of sugary Starbucks drinks and 4000 calories of nutrient dense, healthy food with plenty of protein. |
| Pill is not yet approved for under 18. |
This is complicated. Maybe they eat 4000 calories in one sitting but are super active and athletic. Maybe they eat 4000 calories in one sitting then hardly eat for the rest of the day or they eat 4000 calories in one sitting but infrequently and eat normally the rest is the time. But your teen is surely not eating 4000 calories per meal, inactive, and “gains zero weight.” It’s impossible. The teens that need these meds are overeating every meal, every day. It may not even be junk- too much of any food that is in excess to what your body burns causes weight gain. It could be a second helping of dinner or eating too much between meals, but done routinely over long period of time cause weight gain. These are the kids that need help literally shutting off the signals that keep telling them to eat |
So shots for life?!?! or maybe, just maybe - therapy for their addiction and what caused and causes it. |
| Since OP didn’t post a new thread I’m going to report and ask this to be moved to Diet, Nutrition and Weight Loss. There is not a point in keeping it here, with some unhelpful replies happening. |
I did both, but the key was really the shots, which corrected my hormone issues (leptin, ghrelin) the therapist I saw was really good at explaining how this worked (Michelle Coleman at VHC) she basically resolved a lifetime of shame |
