| I’ve had astigmatism since age 9. I wore eyeglasses as a kid and switched to contacts as a young adult. I’m 52 now. |

For myopia, which is separable from astigmatism, multiple large well controlled studies have shown that children who get sufficient outdoor time every day are both less likely to develop myopia and to have it progress much more slowly if it does develop.
Taiwan now mandates a lot of daily outdoor time for students at all schools in the country. This has shown significant reductions in both myopia and rate of progression for those who do develop it. |
Or it’s genetics. |

There are many uninformed posts in this thread.
OP look at myopia control options in kids. There are many (not all) that are approved and accessible here. Atropine drops and MiSight are very popular but there is also Ortho-K, off label contacts, and most recently the Essilor Stellest glasses. Check out Facebook groups. |
| lol. In America there is no treatment. I've been living with mine for 50 some years. Just started needing glasses full time in my late 40s. |

Some people here clearly are not up-to-date on the latest options for kids. OP is correct that ortho K lenses are one of the options for myopia control. Another poster mentioned Misight contacts and Stellest lenses for glasses. None of these are going to fix a problem. They slow down the progression of myopia. I am not as familiar with their effects on astigmatism.
One of my kids wears the Misight contacts and likes them. The other, who is younger, just got the Stellest glasses. They are not ready for any sort of contact lens. They will switch to Misight when they’re a little bit older. I like the idea of disposable daily contacts versus something worn overnight. |
| Vike Vicente specializes in this but it will take time to get in with the practice. |
Even with unfortunate genetics, sufficient outdoor time usually will slow progression non-trivially. |

| Not worth it, OP. Potentially 1% increase. Basically, just a placebo effect. We declined both treatment options for our DC. They just use glasses. Will never use contacts. |
