When is private worth it? UWS edition

Can you give us some examples of what a child might try doing differently?

Try to figure out ways to be friends with the child - look for a common interest.

See if your child has any behavior that is perceived as weird or different and minimize it - bullies often pick on kids who are different. They don't deserve it, but if your kid can be less different, it could help.

Stop trying to be friends with the child - I have seen kids who were getting bullied insisting on trying to be friends with the bully. These were often awkward kids and their efforts were just making things worse because they were not good at making friends. This is no way excuses the bully's behavior, but if the child had just stayed away rather than further annoying the bully, it might have helped.

I'm not an educator but I'm sure there are others. I'm not saying this will solve the problem. But it is worth a shot. Engage the school to help.
