Early College at Montgomery College

Actually, the Early College program is well structured. Students aren't cobbling together their own schedule like regular MC students do. EC students are in cohorts and the classes are scheduled ~9:00am-2:00pm Mon-Thurs to allow them time to get back to their home high school for athletics. There is less overall time spent in classes, but more time expected with homework and studying. I think that the schedule actually allows more flexibility for athletes than the regular HS schedule.

That is so not true. College credit is college credit. AP's are a gamble. Some colleges don't take many, some colleges only take 4's or higher and even a few that only take 5's. My DD had to use so many AP's for her electives in college and then she's like, why do I want to speed thru with no electives. That is no fun. She was in an engineering college who needed specific math and sciences. Not to mention so many people try and go to college taking the next level math or science and realize their AP class wasn't really a legit college class and they can't keep up with the next level as a freshman in college and go back and retake it anyway.

I am not sure why AP's are so popular in MCPS. In NOVA most do dual enrollment

College credit is not treated the same everywhere. My DD’s college will not take any community college credit. And even within 4 year colleges, the department head will look at syllabus to see if they give credit.

I think it is just going to vary by school. My DD applied UMD and 9 other non-MD state flagships. The majority of her DE classes had already been approved for transfer to those schools. The others would require a syllabus.

UVA, UofM, and the California system all readily accept MC DE credits (those are just a few I glanced at).

Private college are more iffy, but they often are more selective on which AP classes they take too.

Yes. DC at a Northeast SLAC and college will only take credit of certain AP classes and if AP score is 5 but will only take 4 AP credits total.
