+1. The fact that human translators still have jobs is actually shows the limited power of technology. Humans still have these jobs despite the fact that they all could have been replaced long ago. So it's an interesting story of how human jobs might survive even though they could theoretically be replaced by AI. |
| Yea, it probably will. I’ve been thinking of going back to school for a trade. I’m tired of working at a desk all day anyway, and I figure better to get in now and get a couple years under my belt before the thousands and thousands of other people do the same in a couple years. |
| Another language job! Thats all AI has going for it. Large language… this isn’t surprising… (yawn) |
| Posting a series of YouTube links with no commentary is deranged behavior. This is a text forum. |

I don’t really know what we are supposed to take from these posts. Don’t have kids? (Most young people already on board with that.). Just live fast, die you because you won’t have long term financial stability anyway? Or hope for one a Star Trek outcome where tech does all the work and we just live relaxed lives of intellectual inquiry?
I don’t think trades are the answer. Tech can do a lot of those too and can certainly do it with fewer humans — that’s been the trend for a while with stuff like construction, manufacturing and car mechanics for example. |
| AI won’t take your job. But AGI will. Lookup Artificial General Intelligence. It will match or surpass human capabilities. I’ll be retired soon. But the kids today and young adults - who knows what will happen to them when corporations need fewer and fewer human bodies. |
You yawn. I’ll laugh in 2 years when the world is in a completely different place. Not all jobs can be replaced, but many will and new opportunities will arise. Remember the Industrial Revolution completely changed farming - there were significantly fewer farmers - but there were more factory workers. Computers completely changed the work environment- there were fewer secretaries and personnel assistants, but many many more white collar jobs. Now AI - there will be fewer white collar jobs and more content/entertainment creators- AI will never replace Sunday football or a Taylor swift concert. The difference is people will be disconnected and influenced to a point that they are literally thought controlled. It will be the end of community as we know it. |
This is already happening. Where have you been? |
? pp isn't referring to general swe. Also, look up AI Washing. |
| What is so profound about your thread that it needs to be separated from all other threads on this topic? |
| There’s always law enforcement. |
There's a thread in the College forum about how AI captions don't meet the government standard for accuracy! This is actually a problem because recorded lectures need to be remediated by a human before they can be posted due to new ADA regulations. |
| What is the “point” of AI other than making a few billionaires richer and everyone else dumber? |
Robocop. They are already using ai to look for criminals using facial recognition and cameras, and also using ai to take some simple crime reports in some areas. Law enforcement will probably be quick to go to tech because they are incapable of hiring enough people and also because people tend to make a lot of high risk mistakes. (Like driving—once the AJ improves more, ai taxis will be safer than human ones.) |
No one alive today will be arrested by a “robocop.” AI will augment law enforcement, not replace it. Drones are currently being deployed for quick reaction surveillance of dangerous crime scenes. Robots are deployed into potentially life threatening situations where loss of human life is likely for officers if they went in. |
