Swim season no different to normal for teams like ours that have both am and pm practice. And for year round swimmers, it makes no difference as summer practices are unimportant anyway.

Also, this is one of many reasons why we send/sent our kids to private schools. Extending the school year is just not a thing. It has never happened and our oldest kids are in college.

Seriously, what's the point of this? To just tell other people their feelings and experience is wrong? Do you feel superior?

It is important for private school parents to make known to the world that their kids go to private school. They pay all of this money and want recognition, in some form, for the expenditure. That's why you see all of the magnets and sweatshirts and jackets.

maybe private school kids will now get to swim even more summer practices than public school kids - more practice for private school kids & we could see a shake up the top divisions in MCSL in 2027, smh

I'm the one who asked the point of that condescending post. My kids are in private school and they are done with Finals in late May. They also love their Summer pool and team, work there as coaches and lifeguards and are pretty bummed out that their public school friends, of which they have many, are gonna be stuck in school until almost the 4th of July.

Of course, if that poster found out what private school my kids attend, they'd probably scoff and tell me that they don't go to a real private school.

I just don't understand the point of needing to chime in and tell other people why the thing that they like isn't actually good or fun. Says more about you than them.

Is the schedule final? NVSL seems to have shifted a week later, schedule just came out and it’s definitely better than what we were anticipating with a last day of school June 17 in FCPS.

MCSL schedule is set toward the end of the previous year. I supposed they could update/change it but shifting it so it ends later would be a non-starter as well. So that would mean possibly starting later and then trying to cram in more in a shorter period of time - I suppose you could have a "double-header" weekend whereby you have a dual meet on both Saturday and Sunday. That would be a lot but probably workable for one weekend which would allow things to start a week later.

There’s already gonna be a lot of schedule drama with the 4th on a Saturday. I can’t imagine trying to also work in a doubleheader weekend around the 4th and relay carnival.

No. Some may simply be unaware that they can finish with school in early June and have a normal summer by going to a private school. I have no doubt some publics provide a fine education particularly if parents are engaged and motivated. But the public norm of going to school into the teens and 20s of June (or late 20s(!) in snow years) is a 100% non-starter. How do they waste so much time??

lol, this response is so condescending. I assure you we’re all aware the private schools end in early June. That perk is not worth $50k yearly for me.

ok all the stupid private v public arguing aside, did mcsl change anything given the late start date of mcps summer vacation or is it staying as is? Any reps know anything?

Maryland only requires private schools to be open 168 days versus 180 and any kind of day even one grade is on campus counts as a school day: orientation, student led conferences, grandparent’s day, prize day, field day, commencement, etc. your kid is barely in class!

Nothing will change. These dates are set a year ahead

Wow - what a bummer! I missed that MCPS pushed the last day that far. I wouldn’t mind MCSL shifting by a week, but doubt they will even consider it.

-another private school parent with kids who love their summer pool and hanging with their public school friends/teammates

With pools and vacations already scheduled, it is not possible to change the schedule.
