| This is a memoir so may not be what you're looking for, but wow it really conveys oppressiveness -- psychologically, emotionally and physically: damp, dark, dusty, abusive -- a world completely lacking in beauty and light, inside and out. This Boy's Life by Tobias Wolff. The movie is really good too but the book is excellent. |
