| I mean if you know where kid is going and what the dates are why wouldn’t just book now?? |
|
Book now, but only ones that let you cancel.
For move in, there will likely be several days and your kid won't know until later when they get their assigned date. My kid is at a large university and hotels book up for all major events. We didn't pick the closes hotels b/c they were crazy $$ and we knew we didn't need to be super close. We also knew we would be driving a packed minivan and didn't want a place that required valet. I ended booking for move in with a longer stay than we needed, but we left a day early and the hotel didn't charge us for the last day. |
| Book move in and parents weekend as soon as you know the school, it’s a real perk of ED acceptance that there is likely still space available somewhere good. |
| People like you all ruin it for the normal people. I bet you guys also hoard up and buy all the toilet paper and food the minute you hear there might be some snow coming. Ugh |
DP - If you know your kid is going to a school and there are limited hotel rooms, there is nothing wrong with booking ahead. Have you tried to wait until a month out? You would be staying very far away from school. Do you also think it's horrible to book a vacation a year away? What is this nonsense? |

Princeton
2026 First-Year Family Weekend on Friday, November 6, and Saturday, November 7, 2026 |
sorry you can't plan, what's stopping you? |
| Depends 1000% on the school location. |
| Charlottesville hotels book up very fast. Graduation weekends are the worst. Some of my friends forgot to book last fall for May graduation and have asked to stay with me. |
| We booked both already. Next town over from the college. The college town has only one small hotel. |
