Parents of current college freshmen- summer internships , other plans ?

My kid applied to some CS program (free) run by some companies. They did two of these types of programs, and it turned into an internship the next year. They also got an introduction to a company for an internship from someone who saw DC's potential after working with DC on a project at college. This turned into an internship that summer, and continued into part time work during the school year.

Freshman at Harvard/Stanford/MIT has a software engineering internship at Big Tech

There are many paid positions that are related to possible fields of interest for freshman. They should go to career center or talk to professors, look online (nasa and some other industry internship/Reus are open to freshman). It is late in the game though.

Resume building starts early. Sure lifeguarding and lawnmowing is fine for the first summer home, but if they are chasing med, law or phd they need to have a career-related job, even volunteering 20-30hrs a week is fine (add lawn mowing or nannying to make the $)

My freshman is pretty busy at school (academic, ec, social) and hasn't yet prioritize summer planning. Happy that they are all-in and enjoying school at this stage. They did some informal alum chats in the fall but those were informational vs job-seeking. Kid has a resume and an appointment at career service next week but nothing started on the job front yet. Their back up plan is to take a summer class or 2 and do some job shadowing for experience/exposure. I'm OK with that plan as long as they can earn some $ as well.

Ditto. Last summer to really enjoy the break. Internship next summer.

Still applying.

This is my DS. Applied to 30+, some in fall after a career fair at his school but most over the Christmas break. Has had 1 interview and has 1 more coming up. The 1 he interviewed with already is specifically for kids after 1st or 2nd year of college. If nothing pans out, will work at country club. Civil engineering major.

Dc worked on a couple of personal projects and landed post sophomore internship job right after freshman summer.

Some students do get internships freshman year, though, and it gives them a leg up for future internships. Certainly did for my DC.

How many ladies did he court that summer? College kids have the rest of their lives to grind in an office. You only get to be 19 for one summer.

I have a freshman and sophomore. They have both been applying to internships but no luck so far. Will probably end up with regular job or taking a class.
