William & Lillian

They aren't joined at the hip

Just avoid cutesy Insta posts and no one will care

Using family names are a great idea

I don’t think anyone is trying to appear as Celtic when they’re not. I think they just like the names. Origins and meanings of names aren’t important to everyone.

This. I like a lot of Russian (girl) and Scandinavian (boy) names. It doesn’t mean that I want myself or my children to be Russian or Scandinavian. Those are just simply the names that I happen to gravitate toward.

I also like extremely religious names, but I’m not religious.

If OP used William they better have royal ancestry.

We have a Lillian that goes by Lillie. We like William for baby #2. I imagine he’d mostly be called William but maybe Will. We’d avoid Willie.

Are these too similar? Both are very important family names.

Billy and Lillie?

William and Lillian are too similar.

My kids have similar sounding names (shared middle sound) and though I like both names it’s not great. I call to one and get the other. It gets old.

I know someone with twins with these names. I had not thought about your concern before this post.

I think William and Lillian is too close. I think Oliver and Lillian is much better. Would you plan on Ollie as a nickname?

Oliver William Smith is nice, and honors your family member.

I was going to suggest Oliver William! Nn Ollie or Liam.

Way too similar but both beautiful names on their own

You will be saying them both together a lot

They’re fine for siblings, but I don’t like William or any of it’s diminutives (Will, Bill, Billy, etc.). It really doesn’t matter what someone’s siblings are named as soon as they become an older child/teenager. It especially doesn’t matter in adulthood. I don’t know what 99% of my friends’ siblings’ names are as an adult. Parents overthink these things way too much.

Ridiculous. Very common name.

+1

I can’t stand William and any nickname that comes from it.
