Nordstrom personal stylist experience

I used Diane at Montgomery Mall about 10 years ago and she was fabulous.

You give the stylist your budget, it's up to YOU to say no, or it's too expensive, or I don't need 4 pair of awesome black pants. Of course they want to sell more, they work on commission.

You took an Uber to Tysons?

I'm in my 40s and feel like I've been in a fashion rut. Many of the current styles look ridiculous yet the 'older' styles make you look frumpy especially if you've got mom bod I saw Nordstrom had the free styling service so decided to give it a try. I filled out a form online and within a day the stylist reached out to me via text with some additional questions about me and my style and asked for a picture. He also asked about shoes, accessories, etc.

When I showed up at the store, there is a separate area specifically for styling. He had a room set up for me with all of the selections. With the exception of a few items, I loved EVERYTHING. He really knocked it out the park in terms of my style and items that were fun and unique yet age appropriate. And for the things that didn't fit or weren't my style, he brought me some different things try. And most of the items were things I probably would have never found or chose for myself.

I did end up spending quite a bit more than I had intended but I felt really good about everything I bought and didn't feel pressured at all. They packaged everything up nicely for me and gave me a garment bag for the dresses. Normally they courier everything directly to you but since I was going to be out of town the next couple days they sent me home in an uber instead so I could take everything with me. Overall it was a great experience and was so much fun. I highly recommend it.

I have wanted to do this for a long time. Great to hear this was your experience.

This is a bit off-topic, but I went into a boutique near where I live and one of the salespersons was a former Nordstrom's stylist. I told her I was looking for a nice business casual day-to-evening dress, and she pulled out some pieces I would never have looked at much less tried on. But at her urging I did try them on, and every one of them looked fabulous on me. I could not believe it. She just sized me up, walked around the boutique and picked out some dresses she thought would look good on me, and they did!! Pretty amazing. I've gone back to see her a few times when I need something for a special occasion, and she does the same thing. I guess Nordstrom trains at least some of its stylists really, really well.

Did OP ever share the name of her stylist?

This was my experience as well. Which is why I wouldn’t do it again. But I’m glad you’re happy with it, it sounds like you have a bigger budget than I do.

Same here. And then I felt pressured to pay that much and regretted it afterwards.

DP but I bought a lot and I returned a lot a few days later and didn't feel bad about it.

I don't want to bother to do that. One of the reasons I'd want the stylist in the first place is for efficiency. Not much in the way of that if I'm having to go all the way back to the mall and return stuff.

If you provide the stylist with a budget, you shouldn't have to be saying "no" to things pulled for you that are out of budget.

"This was in NYC at the flagship store - should have mentioned. The stylists name was Danill (pronounced like Daniel)."

How much does something like this cost? I would love this, but I don't have a huge budget. Honestly, I wish there was a service like this that was fee-for-service rather than on commissions. I'd totally pay $100 flat fee to have someone pick out a bunch of clothes for me at a much cheaper price point.

I need a wardrobe revamp badly. I dressed great in 2019 when I was 34, but I've had three kids since then, now I'm 41, my body is totally different, my lifestyle is totally different (hybrid instead of the office all the time, and the office is much more casual, and I'm often on the floor playing with the kids...) plus it's been seven years. But I'm the kind of person who (at least seven years ago) pays $75 for jeans and $100 for a dress and $45 for a top, max. I don't know if there are options for this in my price range.

It's all on commission.

Good sales people are not going to spend the amount of time it takes to pull and help someone with this for $100.

I did it a few times. Got some great items I still love. The last time, I felt pressured and overspent. I returned some items later and the stylist was definitely annoyed.
