Transfer from one T10 to another?

How is that possible? UChicago has the highest retention rate 99% among top schools. What are you talking about?

Hmm -- prefer not to say. There all attract very similar kids, no?

Only in the sense that they are all very qualified. The schools are very different.

DP: (same as earlier who argued Yale students and MIT students have more in common than not) --

The schools may be very different, but a lot of the students are the same. There's a reason so many students shotgun the T10, which turns out to be a successful strategy for some. Undergraduate prestige hunters are more alike than different. If the kid wants a real change, he should apply to Michigan or Texas or Berkeley. Or WASP. Those would feel more different than another T10.

Top10 schools generally don't like transfers from other top10 schools. Most have the philosophy of: "we give our transfer spots to kids who haven't already been given a chance."

Right. PP is a jealous Chicago hating troll who is just spewing nonsense out of their ass. Do not engage with these grifters.

Essentially zero shot at a T10 transfer unless you went to Deep Springs / feeder CC / gap year and did something incredible.

Other top 10s don’t want them.

Any examples of success with this strategy? Not my business but it seems like a huge suck of time and money, probably to get rejected everywhere but at best to get an acceptance to a very similar place where the kid would have to start again from scratch.

Sounds like an endless prestige search. Kid is obviously at JHU or Chicago and trying to upgrade.

Northwestern, an alleged “top 10,” would get on their hands and knees to have students half as smart as the average Chicago student. And top 10s other than the bottom ones don’t want anyone other than what a PP described above. Its not specific to Chicago students, you troll.

There are many immigrant kids on Reddit who try this. It's the endless grind for prestige that comes from their parents. Frankly I think it's pretty abusive.

Actually, that's not it. Some of the schools the kid is applying to are ranked lower than current school (but still in T10).

I think the kid is unhappy, and it's a case of 'grass is always greener' when in fact it's a case of the grass is pretty much the same but on the new lawn I'll have to weed and water the whole patch again when I just finished that work over here. . . .

Sad when kid is unhappy but it's frustrating to see him follow such an ineffective strategy to make things better.

Yep. They vent and spew nonsense on DCUM after their children were shut out of the T30.

Yes this ^^

Deep Springs kids are grabbing all the spots. T10s + lower ivies go crazy over them because they’re actually smart free-thinkers.
