lol. TPH academy at the ION Center can’t even be remotely considered a private school. Why on earth would this be appropriate for the private school forum. TPH is no Sidwell. 😆 |
I feel like this was designed to prey on overeager parents who have kids that play for Little Caps. If your kid is actually good enough for hockey they shouldn't be playing in this area. Take the money and send them somewhere up north. I don't think the St James academy is a great idea either but at least it's at a nice facility. |
Kinda weird that this bothers you so much. |
I think we found the burner for the TPH people
|
Just one page back, I didn’t know what school you were talking about. Still, you seem a little obsessed… This wouldn’t be a good fit for my kid, but may not be a terrible option for some. |
You do realize that not all of these replies are from OP and you are likely confusing the feelings of multiple people with one obsessed person, right? |
| this area is a joke for hockey |
| DCUM hockey snowflakes go the New England boarding route. |
No it’s not. It’s just a joke for 16 & 18/19u aaa. There are plenty of kids that leave during high school for northeast boarding schools. Lots of post aaa boys play juniors. The top 14-18/19u aa teams in the dmv are actually pretty good. |
You all sound like the same people who diss people who send their kids to DC private schools, claiming your mediocre public schools (aka the only thing you can afford) are soooo good. Mmm hmm. |
I read through this rather short thread (by DCUM standards) - I.e. not showing that anyone is all that obsessed or bothered by this topic - and the person seems to be expressing a pretty reasonable concern/opinion about this school; of course reasonable minds can disagree and it sounds like you do. But regardless, bringing in the private/ public school thing and insulting those families actually makes you sound like a mean spirited and petty person. |
Actually I’m OP who just checked back in to see where this was going. And why does it bother me? Hard to say why it stuck so a nerve with me but it did. I have two kids play travel hockry, including for both WLC and TM abs I think I just got tired of the money making scam that it all is. Nothing, absolutely nothing, about any of these organizations have kids’ best interests at heart. They are money making scams that prey on parents who are so trying to relive their youth and the dream that their kid is somehow the next Ovi. My kids both love hockey, one is advancing after leaving the area but it has always struck a nerve to see these for profit organizations prey on parents insecurities. I’m sorry - but no one- and I mean absolutely nothing one - can convince me that sending your kid to “ school” at ION while “ training” as if you are a juniors player- is in your kids best interest - it’s not. Have you spent any time at ION? I find it offensive so that’s why I posted. And for those of you who say this might be better than your local public school - my gosh- does your school honestly suck that much? Yikes. |
| Sorry typos. Clearly time for me to go to bed. |
| ^ pride is a disgrace too. Girls good enough to play ncaa d1 have to leave after their freshman year and go to boarding school, commute to Philly for practice, or homeschool and find another tier 1 team with a weeknd model. It’s a nightmare. I wish USA hockey would step in and allow other assns to start aaa, or at least hold these guys accountable. They shouldn’t be protected like nfl franchises. |
As a mother of a female player I desperately want a Virginia AAA girls program. I've heard nothing but bad things about Pride so even if it was closer I don't think we'd play there. |
