Where to go from Prague during Spring Break

Vienna is my favorite city, but I’m a middle-aged woman. I’ve heard wonderful things about Berlin and may be more appropriate for your sons.

I’m curious the last time you visited Prague. We went years back and also last year - it has changed significantly and full of tourists and mainly Chinese knick knacks at all the shops.

Prague to Berlin is also nearly 4 hours on the train.

My vote is for Vienna.

I would strongly recommend day trips to small towns around Prague.
On my first trip in 96 I visited Cesky Krumlov, Ceske Budejovice and Terezin concentration camp. I didn’t revisit these last fall but I’m guessing they will be less touristy and crowded. I had a few weeks so I also visited Vienna and Budapest on the same trip. But I’d only do that if you had 2 weeks, I think seeing more of the Czech outside of Prague is better for 1 week.

But, if you are a Vermeer lover, then I would consider doing a day trip to Dresden to visit the art gallery to see the one and only Vermeer they have. It is also my favorite.

Unfortunately Cesky Krumlov gets a ton of daytrippers these days- I think some river cruise tour groups go there. So that's somewhere an overnight would be better. But it's really beautiful.

Lots of good advice here! I used to live in Prague for several years and wanted to do intro DH to the area. We flew into Prague and out of Vienna. We also took the train up to Berlin for two or three nights and stopped for a few hours in Dresden, to tour the museum and walk around the main square, on our return to Prague—easily done. Both Berlin and Vienna are heavyweights for museums. My preference is for Vienna because of the artists, Klimt, Schiele and those Bruegels! The cafe scene is wonderful and you could entertain yourself on that alone. Tour the opera and go to a music concert. Berlin is history. Just seeing the wall remnants and stories are incredible. It’ll come down to what your family prefers. The amazing thing is: all three are different. Could also consider flying into Berlin and out of Vienna to do all three. The CR has many wonderful castle towns and other places to visit. I’m not sure if teens would appreciate a glorious spa town like Karlovy Vary, though.
