Some are on campus but they told them to go home if they could.

"The University of Maryland, College Park is closed on Thursday, Jan 29 and Friday, Jan 30, 2026, due to inclement weather. University crews are making every effort to resume campus operations.

As of early this morning, heat and hot water have been restored throughout campus, and building temperatures are returning to normal. Thank you for your patience throughout this unprecedented situation and cold winter weather. UMD crews continue to manage a variety of weather-related issues."

This has been hugely disruptive throughout campus. I wouldn't be surprised if they announce they're releasing decisions next week -- and wouldn't be surprised if they come out tomorrow around 4:45 EST. We'll have to wait and see.

This is what AI is telling me:

As of January 29, 2026, the university has not officially announced a delay for the freshman Early Action decision release. Despite the ongoing campus closure and heating outages, the release is still expected to take place as scheduled.
Key Points for the Decision Release:
Target Release Date: Decisions for Early Action applicants are promised "by February 1". Based on current university expectations and community reports, the release is widely anticipated for Friday, January 31, 2026, at 5:00 PM.
Impact of Closure: While physical offices in the Mitchell Building are closed, the admissions release process is largely automated through the Terps Application Portal (TAP). University reports suggest that the weather and heating failures should not disrupt this electronic notification.
Notification Method: You will receive an email once your decision is ready to view. To avoid delays, ensure you can log into your Terps Application Portal ahead of time

My DD has seen some commitment announcements on IG this afternoon. Did some schools (Business, Ag, Engineering) announce today?

That reminds me, I was just about to start a new thread asking if they send an email or if DC should check the portal.

Churchill has a senior going to Maryland already. Is it a recruited pickleball player? Is that a thing?

Do they also notify you via email or is it just through the portal?

That was never true. My student there had heat the whole time. Some buildings did not have heat the whole time.

There are numerous buildings on campus.
