Federal employees and Infertility options

I’m at CCRM and had health insurance through the state Exchange and then got another job with fertility benefits. CCRM highly suggested I drop the exchange insurance and wait until the following month to start after dropping it and just use the new insurance or it would delay authorizations as one would be primary and the other secondary. So I would ask CCRM about timeline for primary/secondary insurance authorizations. They are needed each year in Jan. Having the insurance that covered Ivf saved me so much $.

I would wait and see how the first couple retrievals go before trying to plan everything out as your protocol or recommendations may change. Good luck!

Just wanted to chime in to say that the negotiated rates are much cheaper than the published rates. I did an egg retrieval and three transfers and it only counted as $5k against my $25k lifetime limit. This was on my spouses' insurance a few years ago but I was still shocked at the disparity. Also wanted to add that if you are eligible of FSBP (and a lot of people who aren't FSOs are surprisingly eligible), there is no annual limit on IVF so you could switch to that next year or if you have a qualifying event.
