Pain after foot surgery

PP here. I would only get foot surgery as a last recourse. We use our feet all the time, so the recovery has to be worth enduring the pain.

I had a bunionectomy that was really painful. What ultimately helped was the removal of the pin and screw — once that was done, it started to heal and the pain went away.

When I told my doctor about the pain, he was the one who suggested I have the pin and screw removed. The pain relief was almost instantaneous.

I found the alternating Tylenol and Motrin to help the most.

Once they redid that, the pain went away. Obviously not your case, but I found that no medicine (gabapentin, oxy) helped at all and I was miserable. 8 weeks would be torture, I'm sorry.

My daughter had surgery on her leg that the ace wrap caused unrelenting pain that nothing in the hospital would touch. Once they cut the wrap off it was much better

The issue is that the pain is just nonstop. I can ice it to calm it down a bit, but I can only leave the ice on for so long. Positioning doesn't matter. It just burns and throbs. They tried to give me something that treats nerve pain, but I couldn't tolerate the medicine (which didn't seem to help) and had to come off of it.

If you've had foot surgery, can you give me an idea of how long it took for the pain to go away? The surgeon says it will go away, he just can't predict when. It would really help to just have a goal in mind to make things a little more bearable.

It doesn't just "go away" you may feel discomfort during cold temps for years/lifetime. But pain from surgery? Give it some more time. If something is still off, go to another doctor if that's an option for you.
