Where would you ski next week "locally" on Epic pass?

OP back. I just sent DH this email... we will see what he says LOL. We have been to Snowshoe many times and like it there, but I just think it's too far for this trip. Of the others, we went to liberty once 10 years ago. It was a day trip, and our oldest two had a few hours long ski lesson for their first ever time skiing. It was a nice experience. We also went to Seven Springs for one day once and had a fine / good time - just wish it wasn't going to be so cold there, otherwise I might just do it again. Never been to Whitetail, Wisp, or Timberline.

I took off work Thursday / Friday. I guess we can wait to see how things fare after the storm and just decide at the last minute but I suppose start thinking about it?

We have dog care Wed. PM to Sat. AM

The 3 that take the Epic pass, which we have 2 days of - are Seven Springs, Liberty, or Whitetail. I would be willing to eat the cost of the epic pass and go somewhere else if you really want to. We could do one day at Liberty or Whitetail if you don’t want to do 2 days… or two day trips; one to each if you don’t want to stay overnight…

I assume we don’t want to drive to snowshoe (though X family will be there) (not epic pass).

Seven Springs: appx 3.5 hours drive (highs of 12, 11 degrees forecasted on Thurs./Fri. for now)

Liberty: Appx. 1 hr 40 mins drive (highs of 22, 24 degrees forecasted on Thurs./Fri. for now)

Whitetail: Appx. 1 hr 50 mins drive (highs of 22, 23 degrees forecasted on Thurs./Fri. for now)

Wisp: 3 hrs 9 mins drive (highs of 10, 11 degrees forecasted on Thurs./Fri. for now – Y family will be there) (not epic pass)

Timberline: 2 hrs 50 mins drive (highs of 11, 14 degrees forecasted on Thurs./Fri. for now) (not epic pass)

Next year I think I shouldn’t buy any pass and we’ll just wing it locally at any of the above.

you can wait but you may not find lodging nearby. Things will be busy if places get a lot of snow this weekend.

He called and said lets do Epic since we have the passes. We *may* do two day trips - one to Liberty and one to Wisp. Idk if that is dumb LOL.

BAD TYPO! That would be dumb!

I meant to one day trip to Liberty and one day trip to Whitetail.

PP here who voted for Seven Springs. Timberline is my favorite “local”-ish resort because I think it’s managed better than the others and the drive from the DMV is easy. That’s a good one to keep in mind, even if you don’t go this time. Have fun!

I might think about getting a hotel in Federick which would cut down some of your drive time.

Are you renting equipment or do you have your own? If renting I’d go to one place. Rentals at both whitetail and Liberty always seem like a nightmare. I’ve gone with friends and I can ski 10 runs before they’ve gotten out with their equipment. So wouldn’t want to do that 2 days in a row. Or try to rent at a local shop.

Op here - thanks for the advice! My family ended up deciding they only wanted to do a day trip and for only one day this week, and we ended up at Whitetail. We picked Whitetail because my 8th grader found out two of his friends were going to be there. So, then we said my 11th grader invite a friend to come with us, and we ran into a friend of my 5th grader's as soon as we got there! So it was nice to ski with friends and a good reminder that we can actually ski closer to home than we had been doing in recent years.

We still have one day left on our epic passes to hopefully use next month!
