How many hours a week do you *actually* work?

I cannot do 8 hours a day. I go crazy. I can handle maybe 4 hours of actual work. Then I’m ready to get out of the house, go do *something*, anything other than staring at a screen with a fried brain.

How many hours a day are you actually working?

I work 8-6, but take varying length breaks for lunch and errands. So over 8 hours some days and less on others. I figure that it comes out to 40, more if something is going on.

Question for you and your fried brain is whether you want to be able to buy a house and a car, pay the upkeep, take vacations, raise kids, save for college, and have a nice nest egg when it's all over. I just show up to work every day and act like my job depends on my performance.

Humans should be working and able to work in one sitting about the number of minutes as their age. If you are 50 years of age, that's 50 min of work then a break. Follow this pattern and you will excel.

Well, I generally come in at least fifteen minutes late. I use the side door, that way Lumbergh can't see me. Uh, and after that, I just sorta space out for about an hour.

Yeah. I just stare at my desk but it looks like I'm working. I do that for probably another hour after lunch too. I'd probably, say, in a given week, I probably do about fifteen minutes of real, actual work.

I find working out in the morning before I start work helps.

But also taking a break for lunch and doing a workout during lunch is normal. You just adjust your hours around it. For retail jobs and restaurant jobs we also had break times.

8.5 -9 hours. Most people actually work during their scheduled work days. If you have avoided that thus far, congratulations, you are part of the privileged few from whom little is expected.

It’s not that I’m lazy, it’s that I just don’t care.

Signed, her pissed off husband.

Are you implying you and your wife don't have kids? Hence the "W" instead of "M" or "P"?

around 55-60 hours a week. I'm an attorney, i have unending quantities of work and client deadlines. I sit down around 8am and work through to probably 7pm or later. I might get up to pee or get a yogurt for lunch, which takes all of 2 minutes and then i eat at my desk. I have a lot of client calls and will browse the internet during those if i'm not on deck, so it gives me downtime but i am still billing and have to be listening the whole time. I make $2m++ so i don't mind. DH makes about half that and only works for maybe 1-3 hours a day in a senior management role, and i am jealous of him. Seems a much better gig, though i do enjoy my work a lot.

I have to be onsite 40 hours a week, but I probably work 20 and fart around for 20.

If you're in a high pressure private company atmosphere, there's always more work than hours in the day.

Typically 6-7. I have to be physically in office all day, but I'm not usually very productive my first hour, and there are times when I procrastinate a bit when transitioning between tasks or in shorter breaks between meetings.

I work part time. I actually work about 2/3 of my paid hours. That is more a function of me being efficient though.
