| I don’t think anyone’s budget other than the county council’s really matters. |

My property value just got increase 14% by State of Maryland. I know this is solely for the purpose of collecting my property tax from me. If county council keeps on increase the property tax rate, I'm sure more residents will flee away.

Ours actually just got lowered a bit. |
NP. Good! Long overdue and kudos to those who have fought it. |
Yes, the council has the final say, but Jawando, Glass, and Stewart have already weighed in on slowing SSIMS closure in consideration of community opposition, and maintaining Eastern MS at a rational size. Fani-Gonzales is no fan of Taylor. Because Taylor is a bull in a china shop, listening to no one and imagining himself to always be correct, he makes it easy for the council to choose what to cut in a very lean year because he creates controversy when he could have made different choices. |
Then you have done no work to it requiring a building permit and no one in your direct vicinity that has homes remotely comparable have sold them for a high price. Those are the things that raise your property values. |
On average the MD property value increased by 12%: https://www.thebanner.com/politics-power/local-government/maryland-property-value-assessment-LT6SODH3LRE5TBKXDFXWA3A7LI/ |
They save money with Wootton moving to Crown because the holding school scenario means that the upgrades which would be needed to keep old-Wootton open as that "swing space" would be far lower than that envisioned with a Wootton revitalization. This is presaged by Taylor's saying about SSIMS that anyone could live with such conditions for a couple of years while in a holding facility (not saying, myself, that that is a good call on his part). And then they save time by taking Wootton, itself, off of the list of those schools needing to use the swing space, allowing a different school's rebuild/revitalization to get addressed that much sooner. The entire portfolio is way behind on capital projects, and they need to streamline where they can. They would[i] save money/time with the SSIMS population moving to Sligo/Eastern/TPMS, of course, for similar reasons. [i]That would be a true closure, as opposed to Wootton's relocation, where the latter only is possible because of the combination of the existing new build at Crown and the downturn in projected enrollment. The true delta, when compared to baseline rebuild/revitalization, for the improvements to expand Sligo and Eastern to accommodate the SSIMS population, net of the cost (not to mention time) savings to other projects from having the SSIMS facility available for holding, does not compare favorably with the cost of a full SSIMS rebuild, which really is what would be needed, there. Again, not saying that going with super-sized schools is a good call. There are the community effects, long-term system capacity/capacity distribution and conditions across the facility portfolio resulting from each potential course of action to consider, as well. |
