Fed to Private Sector

Investment bank or commercial bank? There is nothing stable at all at an investment bank, even compared to the last year of fed work. The trade off is the much better comp but it’s up to you decide whether that trade off is worth it for you (bonus can often double your base pay, or more at higher levels). Commercial banks can be steadier but comp is not as stratospherically high. Even there it can be tough, though. For example, at Capital One they cull the bottom 10% of performers every year or something like that. It depends on the bank.

If you think the comp vs stability trade off is worth it, go for it. Otherwise don’t.
