Do you feel adequately represented in D.C.?

Anonymous
Yes, but I’m blessed to reside in the commonwealth of Massachusetts so I’m represented by Elizabeth Warren, Ed Markey, and Jake Auchincloss.

I get weekly emails from Auchincloss who is a very, very bright young politician and I suspect will be a senator in the future. I was sad when Joe Kennedy III decided to give up the seat to run unsuccessfully against Markey, but we ended up with a very thoughtful if slightly less liberal representative replacing him.

Although they don’t directly represent me, I’m also impressed with the rest of our House members representing the commonwealth - all very solid voices of reason.

I have lived places where I didn’t feel well represented - including the years I lived in DC - so it’s very nice to feel so comfortable with my congressional contingent.

The only downside to being here is that I feel my vote isn’t so impactful. I am considering a temporary relocation to a swing state (I work in healthcare so it’s possible) for the midterms and beyond.

You know you can fix this by moving 10 miles or so in any direction, right? It’s not like the rules were changed on you after you settled there.

PP literally just said they were born here. Reading comprehension.

But in general, “just move” is also a crappy response to someone pointing out problems. Where does it end? Should everyone with concerns about US politics, on either side, leave the country because there are some things in our system that need fixing?
Well, multiple Democrat administrations (Clinton, Obama, Biden) with Democrat
Congresses failed to do anything about this. In fact, they didn’t even try. Why? Because the rest of the country just doesn’t care, and that’s not going to change. So actually, “just move” is the only practical option.

requires 60 votes in the senate unless there is no more filibuster....has nothing to do with wanting to try.
Whatever, did even get out of the House, when and where? Democrats have never put any serious effort behind this.

There was actually a pretty big push for this in 2021. There’s a long thread about those efforts in the local politics section. It was one of the things that was run over by Manchin and Sinema’s refusal to engage with any discussion of modifying the filibuster in the Senate.
Ok, so your telling me 2 Democrats shut it down. Thanks for making my point, “just move” is the only practical option.

No every Republican in the Senate shut it down. They could have voted for DC statehood. Why didn’t they?

Republicans are to blame. They’re also the ones letting Trump’s Gestapo roam the streets.

Actually, Obama had 60 votes in the Senate in 2009-2010, but somehow it didn’t make it on his list of “to dos” b/c no one outside of DC cares.

Yes, the Republicans are Gestapo, Nazi, Racist, blah, blah, blah. That’s all really original, keep shouting it into the Internet void. It’s really just a sign you lost the argument.

So sorry that Obama and the 60 Democrats who were in the Senate FOR ONLY TWO MONTHS WHILE THE GLOBAL ECONOMY WAS COLLAPSING didn’t solve every problem in the universe caused by Republicans.

Actually, it was 5 months September to February. It’s kind of a “tell” that they didn’t pass or even bring it in the House. Why? Because they just don’t care outside DC. So again “just move” is the only practical option.

Neither were actual democrats, and sinema, it turns out, was an astrotruf republican.

If they’re addressed the assault weapon ban during that period it may have prevented Sandy Hook.

+1. It’s really not that job of a deal. I’d rather live in DC; if I cared about this I’d move. As long as constituent services are intact, which, under EHN, they absolutely are, I don’t care about the voting part.
