Do most seniors have a free period?

My oldest with diagnosed sleep apnea had a medical accommodation to arrive for second period. Thus, his "free period" as actually desperately needed sleep recovery. We knew it wasn't a good look for college applications, but his health comes first.

My second is definitely not going to have a shortened schedule. She is aiming for top universities.

I do not know what most kids do, but my daughter, and the kids in her friend group, do not have a free period senior year. They are pretty serious students as well.

My senior did, 2nd semester. He dropped a semester class right before it started. BUT he had gotten into UVA ED, had straight As and was in an IB Diploma program so argued the A in a non honors/IB class would bring down his final GPA. I struggled with allowing him to drop but turned out just fine. It was the first class period of the day (well, every other day) and it was a nice break to not be rushing off to school those mornings.

Not sure about most but many do, including my own. Didn't affect their top college acceptances.
