Recommend a show like Friday Night Lights

Honestly, there is nothing quite like FNL. But some that could scratch that itch:

Offspring
The Fosters
Felicity (but all the original music has been replaced for streaming and is terrible)
Dawson's Creek
Lovesick
Somebody Somewhere
Normal People

I wonder why he doesn’t headline more movies. I guess he is A-list but he isn’t in much.
I love him!

Haha, my bad! This was my post and was supposed to go on the Golden Globes thread.

Thank goodness! I was thinking, "I don't remember him at all in FNL"

Not even close, for me at least. I second the recommendations for This Is Us and Parenthood. Possibly Offspring and Rita as well.

They were done by the same person, hence why these are all similar. And yeah, Nobody Wants this is anywhere close to FNL.

Honestly, nothing compares. DH and I LOVED Friday night lights. It was such a perfect, easy to watch show. It’s been 11 years since we watched it but not much compares.

It really is a gem of a show. It was both quality and easily digestible. And Coach Taylor. Sigh.

If you like Connie Britton, I enjoyed Nashville, but it is way more dramatic than Friday Night Lights. Not in a serious way like The Wire but just more dramatic. Not sure if that makes sense.

One of my favorite episodes of Grey's Anatomy is the one with Kyle Chandler. I think that was when he really got noticed.

While not the same, but still emotional storylines, what about Grey's Anatomy?

Parenthood (though I didn't like it nearly as much as FNL.)
This is Us
Billions was campy and fun. (Couldn't take the stress of Succession.)
I'm rewatching The Diplomat on Netflix. And really love it. There is something empowering about the show.

Did you ever see Everwood? That has some of the small town/teen angst vibes, with good music. It was a beautiful show.

I got a little wistful when I found out that Kyle Chandler’s daughter plays the android Wendy in the most recent Alien adaptation.

She is super talented, and Coach Taylor is her dad. All the sighs.

Have always had a super crush on him ever since Homefront (might be a thought if you haven’t seen it before).

Agree with the general consensus that it’s hard to replicate a show like FNL. You kind of have to choose between all the elements that made it work. The characters with a strong, respectful marriage. The high school atmosphere of a certain camaraderie. Wholesome values prominently featuring friendship and respect. I even admired the pursuit of the future of the football star who was paralyzed in a game. That one actually happened in our town’s high school, a teenager was permanently paralyzed after a very unfortunate hit during a practice.

I have heard from at least one person that the TV series Parenthood got her through a very, very difficult time in her life.

FNL was just a gem of a show.

OP here. I loved Parenthood and This is Us as well.

I guess I am looking for a drama that isn't hard to sink into but that is also not cringey or overly silly.
I feel like whoever did these 3 shows did them so well.

Durrells of corfu

Someone keeps recommending Offspring and they need to stop. I plead you to stop recommending that show.
