Lol, you have no idea how many security cameras have been around and for how long? |
The shoplifting problem is grossly exaggerated and now many stores act aggressively against innocent shoppers. I heard on a police scanner yesterday, employees from a Dick's sporting goods in Ashburn called the police because two black women were in their store shopping - one had a mask on - and they initially said they were shoplifting. Then the police dispatcher clarified that the employees said that employees from a store near them called and had assumed the women were shoplifting so they called the police saying they were shoplifting and assumed they would do it in their store. I would sue both stores if this happened to me. I have been treated this way and am fed up. I wear a mask and some stores assume you are wearing it to shoplift. And no, I'm not going to stop wearing it. When idiot employees decide someone is a shoplifter, they do all kinds of things against corporate policies that are likely to get their employer sued. Employees will buzz you - ie walk past you several times so close they almost run in to you. They actually are discouraging you from shopping and want you to leave. At one store, the same employee ran into me physically on two different occasions. I called corporate and complained and people were fired and they gave me $ without me making a single threat to sue. They'd already been involved in a situation where a shopper was treated openly like a shoplifter and were sued. I'm so fed up now, I will sue. My point is, store employees are acting inappropriately and assuming people are shoplifting when they are not. These face scanners mean more people are going to be treated as shoplifters and you'll never be able to get off that list. Also piss off an employee at a store - like wear a political shirt they don't like, and watch yourself get on their list. I've also been ripped off at several stores where they assume I am a shoplifter. I've seen that I've been overcharged several times and recently a woman I didn't know was buying the same Christmas item I was and she was ahead of me in line. She got the 60% discount advertised for the item and I had to argue with the employee to get the same discount. People are idiots and I think lots of employees enjoy thinking and want to label people as shoplifters. |
The bolded statements are lies. Most stores are using this technology, even in the nice suburbs. Innocent shoppers get on these lists and are harassed. Stores have no right to label people who aren't shoplifting as shoplifters, yet they are. |
No, I don't think it is. Stores in Virginia have been doing this for years. |
The Whole Foods near me closed down the self checkouts and when I asked, they said they were losing so much money to shoplifting that it made no sense to reopen them. I'll take the cashier's word over someone's weird ranting online. That you're wearing a mask too somehow doesn't surprise me. |
Yep and your license plate and Home Depot and Lowes same. Thanks so much MAGA for Government overreach. Cult of stupid strikes again. |
LOL no dummy you are not paying attention.. The cameras before were for shop lifters that is not what these are used for moron! This is not hard you god dammed anti American. No one should want the Trump Administration doing this. We do not live in Russia! |
Screw off MAGA idiot. These cameras make us Russia not the US. Shame on you falling for FOX and it's propaganda find your dam brain cells and figure out why our military died for our civil rights! |
I would sue as well. That is ridiculous and I'm so sorry this is happening to you. |
You're ignorant. That you judge someone who wears a mask says everything I need to know about you. |
I'm a liberal dem but have to agree with maga posters. Both parties have been so pro business that they have sold us down the line. BOTH. |
Thanks for the sympathy. It really sucks. I mentioned what the store manager at Dicks did to make people realize that employees are calling the police on shoppers who have not actually shoplifted. This isn't the first time that this has happened in the stores near me. |
| Target has been doing that for years. |

If people don't believe innocent shoppers are being harassed, go read the yelp review of the Michaels in Ashburn. An employee in the framing dept decided a shopper had stolen the print they brought in to have framed and the behavior of the store manager and employee were outrageous.
I know this is true because I was treated similarly when I took in an item to be framed. The item was clearly not something they sold, but the employee who was following me around in the frame department actually grabbed it out of my hands and tried to scan it multiple times. It was outrageous. I asked her what she was doing and had to follow her around the store to get my item back. I was stupid and didn't complain and went to add a yelp review and what I saw was appalling. |
| Thanks for the heads up. I won't be shopping at any store doing this. Its sick. |
