My dishwasher has some crazy sanitizer mode that seems way to hot for salmon.

Cooking salmon for an entire cycle would be way overcooked. Cooking salmon is one of the easiest foods to cook

But, speaking of usual way to cook, I took some chili to a pot luck and a woman, whom I did not know, asked me if I had washed the ground beef in the chili. I told her no and that I had never heard of washing ground beef. She told me that she spreads into a thin layer and washes it under hot running water on both sides
She dries it with paper towels. I laughed because I couldn't believe she was serious and she would not allow her children to eat the chili.

Have any of you ever heard of this?

No, and that is a bizarre behavior even from cultures into washing down meat.

Yes, someone I know also washes ground meat. But used a sieve, doesn’t spread it thin and wash it. For the amount of work to wash it, it may be easier to just grind it at home.

I remember my parents and their friends talking about cooking on the engine block decades ago, although I don't know if anyone did it.

I thought it originated as a hack for when you didn’t have a functioning oven/range, like during a kitchen renovation.

This is the preferred method for contaminating your kitchen when you want to distribute E-coli as widely as possible.

This is why I don’t eat other people’s food.

I saw this on a household tips tiktok a few years ago and I thought it was dumb then.

Most dishwashers do not smell great, even with regular cleaning. I don't want my dinner in something that smells gross.
