I’m very sympathetic. My best advice, if you want any, is to put on really great dance music from the 80s (think Prince etc) and commit to 30-45 minutes of just purging stuff (like those old holiday card that didn’t get mailed) or putting stuff away. Upbeat music is key to success here. This also counts as exercise. |
NP. ??? I think it's a reasonable question. No matter what is happening in my private life, there is also a literal cloud of doom over our entire country. Sometimes I feel crappy and am not sure why, and then I'm like, oh, yeah. That guy is doing terrible stuff. |

I'm struggling too. I've always been healthy and in good shape and I normally work out daily and eat pretty well. I've had some health issues and can't sleep well so I lost all motivation to exercise or eat well. Then I started gaining weight and that exacerbated the lack of motivation.
Honestly, I do think a lot of this is related to the state of the world and D.C. in particular. It is so not normal right now, I can't pretend it is, and I have no control over anything. And it's hard to watch people lose their jobs, their insurance, etc. the empathetic people I know are struggling. |

Is it just today?
Or do you feel this way often?? If often - - it may be a good idea to get yourself professionally evaluated for depression. There are many safe ➕ effective treatments available which can help you out of your current feelings of hopelessness…… Wishing you all the best for the New Year. ❤️ |
+1. Bet this is the root of it. |
Good advice. For further explanation, see the short speech Matt Damon gives in the classroom at the end of “The Martian” about how he kept it together in a horrendous situation. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-_-_8WXDFNk |

Action is the antidote to anxiety. It's nearly impossible to feel or think your way out of depression. You really need to act, and the good emotion will follow.
Get groceries. Go for a walk. Listen to a podcast while doing the dishes. Fold one load of laundry. Make your bed. Good luck, OP. I think many of us have been there. |
One day? Shake it off! Go enjoy nature and take a hike! Call a childhood or college friend once a week! Plan a trip to look FW to! Visit a sibling’s family for a weekend! Take yourself out to lunch or coffee! Exercise! GET DRESSED AND OUT OF THE HOUSE! |
| 🎶 “All my mornings are Mondays stuck in an endless February“ 🎶 and Januarrrry. They’re both the worst although at least things start to pick up in mid February as we start to head toward spring and we have family bdays at the end of Feb that make it brighter. |
Explain why it’s reasonable to ask about politics and relevant at all to OPs question. Would your genuine advice to help OP be different based on political persuasion? It’s condescending and dismissive. |
|
| Maybe you should go for a walk. Get off the internet Op |

I put my treadmill in the living room so I really have no excuses.
I try to do 60 minutes of walking a day there. Some days I literally have to do it 5 minutes at a time and it’s the last thing I want to do, but 5 minutes is only 5 minutes and the hardest part is starting. |
NP. No, it’s actually based in scientific research, specifically that carried out by The Pew Charitable Trust. Women who identify as democrats / liberals are far more likely to struggle with mental illness than other women. Google it. |
| OP, thinking about "how you feel" is useless. A waste. Unimportant. Get-going and do something. |
