| Honestly think about this time next year and whether you want to chance it. No matter how you cut it the admission rates are very low so I would encourage your DC to use every advantage they have. Only if they were turned off by Cornell would I give up that thumb on the scale. |
| Echoing others - if the schools are pretty close, use the ED advantage. That's what our kid just did in a similar situation and was accepted ED to my alma mater and no regrets here. Odds at the other school were single digit even with all the great stats, awards, etc. Read the 30-some pages of the dumb legacy thread, but still... |
| DC got in ED to UPenn to seas. No hooks nothing from public. |
Legacy did not do well this year at Ivies. Many deferrals and some outright rejections. |
Public school will be a big plus with those stats. Bonus points if you’re in the South or Midwest. |
| I would do RD for the unhooked! |
| I think unhooked to Penn is highly unlikely. I would not give up the legacy advantage to ED to Cornell. |
| Is the thought of using legacy as a boost to compensate for lacking other parts of the application package? |
| No. My child has strong everything. The thought is to get in. But if it is so unlikely for Penn and you use legacy advantage if you don't do Ed to Cornell maybe it doesn't make any sense at all to do Penn. |
My kid just got in to UPenn ED no hooks or anything so it can be done! Kids older sibling goes to Cornell so not sure if that is legacy… maybe a weak sibling legacy? Gotta do what the kid wants so there is no regrets and what if questions if the parents make the decision for them. |
Duke also had a drop and they’re still TO. |
Maybe a large drop from internationals. |
Public school a plus only if low income or magnet. |
| Bit easier if for underscribed major. |
Examples of underscribed major for Penn? |
