I suspect there will at least be some small turnover, mainly because of the abuse of federal workers in this area is causing people to move then they wouldn't have otherwise. We know one family who just left mid-year. I'm not sure if those slots are represented in the lottery data. But hanging out on the waitlist is a good idea. |
We are at gunston and very happy. I do know people who have had issues if their kid needs support. My kid is in immersion there and doing well. |

there were more spots available than I had seen in year's past. 3-5 in a few grades. My younger child is #1 on the waitlist and older #3 so we'll see what happens. |

You can look at APS' monthly enrollment charts to see the change in number of students in each grade at each APS school.

| I would call the elementary schools and talk to them directly - that is what we did when we were planning to move to Arlington and they were very helpful. |
| My kids are at Claremont and they have both had a more kids leave this year than in past years (families moving out of the area due to the federal jobs situation, as identified earlier in the thread). |
4th grade class has lower numbers than all the other grades (though they didn't lose anyone from the fall). Yet they had no spots open for 5th grade next year (Claremont). Wonder why.... |
One kid got accepted off the waitlist this week. |
If you’re interested in a spot I’d definitely call the school and ask why. That is strange. The February report is out. More kids have left the school. https://www.apsva.us/wp-content/uploads/sites/57/2026/03/U-MEM_281-Membership-Summary-All-2.pdf |
