Does UChicago defer in ED1?

DD’s friend was rejected. Private, full pay, top 20 percent, top rigor, mid 1500 SAT.

My DD was accepted. She applied early action. It’s her top choice but we honestly can’t afford it.
We are chasing merit aid so all the other schools she applied to are outside of the top 50.

PP again. I feel bad not being able to support her dreams after a she worked so hard. But that’s life.

Congrats! She will love it. Ignore the bitter posters on DCUM. It's an amazing education and opportunities.

Congrats on the acceptance. She will do great wherever she goes.

Question: Why apply to a school that you cannot afford?

OP here. To answer your question UChicago is DD’s dream school and we told her from the get go that it’s not in the budget. She wanted to apply anyway.
As I said before, all the other schools she applied to are outside of the top 50 and we selected them based on the amount of merit aid they seem to give.

Best of luck to her! She will be very competitive in the other schools. There are many paths to the same destination.
