What’s going on at Janney?

My child is in PK4 so we haven’t encountered this yet…

So it sounds like you’ve answered your own questions. Should you be worried about your child who is several grades separated from your imagined child predator and is not pulled from class? No. Are you worried they are roaming the school for victims?

I’m not worried about a “predator”… it sounded more of an issue about how the school operates in general.

Yes, Janney (and other schools) sometimes pull kids out. What is concerning to you about that?

Not concerned about that; post is referencing a concerning sounding listserv email from a parent that references ongoing litigation

My kid is also at Janney. I know a little bit about the situation. I wouldn't be concerned for your child, and I'm not concerned for mine.

NP, wow who peed in your cornflakes today PP? OP's question is totally reasonable to ask here in case anyone else from Janney knows more than is on the listserve. Far more bizarre or "WTF?!" questions get asked on DCUM, this one actually makes sense to bring here in case others know and can say more anonymously. And if you heard something possibly concerning was happening but because your kid was PK4 and the kid/grade in question was 3rd or 4th so your attitude was "Oh ok doesn't affect me, I don't care what's happening in grades above me", well I feel for your own kids PP. Cuz that is frightening.

OP your question makes sense, don't let others shame you for asking this. I do think you should also just ask for more specifics in the listserve, because those are big allegations and more details on what "informal methods" or whatever the other language of concern was, if the person posted it in the listserve, they should expect questions about what they mean.

There is a little too much telephone going on here: a question asked about a vague listserv message that alluded to things but didn't provide all of the details... Not enough to get freaked out about in my book.

I'm a parent of a lower grade kid there; they pull 2-3 kids out in small groups regularly to get a more precise ides of where they are at, which i consider a huge plus. My overall impression of the school so far is that the teachers and the specialists doing the small groups are amazing and dedicated. I always have my antennae up for anything out of the ordinary, but so far the experience for us has been overwhelmingly positive. I wouldn't let a vague message override my own assessment. And if something bad did happen, I'd expect the principal to deal with it appropriately.

I have one kid in an older grade at Janney and one kid who attended through 5th. No concerns here and I found the listserv post confusing and vague, though it did sound like the poster had some real trouble with their own family’s situation at Janney.

It’s a big school, and it isn’t going to work well for everybody. That’s been the case for years, but we’ve been fortunate enough that it has been a good place for our kids, so I haven’t really worried about the fact that others had different experiences, at least as far as what that might mean for my family.

Former Janney family and I know multiple families that in the past had inappropriate things happen to their kids who had IEPs. The long time senior staff member involved turns a very blind eye. So no, it won’t likely be a direct problem for your kid, but it is a problem for the school.

Please be more specific. What do you mean by inappropriate?

PP sorry that was an accidental loaded word choice, I meant psychological and physical harm (being slapped, face grabbed, etc.)

How worried should we be????

By senior staff you mean police turned a blind eye? Or CFSA?
