Vandy ED2 is basically required for a RD admit.
They often defer to RD. |
|
My kid hoping for Swarthmore will ED2 to Wash U
Good luck to your kid OP! Hoping Williams comes through. |
| We were in this position last year. Hard to ED2 if a deferral. A lot of "what ifs" in that scenario. One reason why a rejection can be easier. |
What school is this? |
| Not sure how common it is but a kid I know got in CMC in ED2 three years ago. |
No clue what the B stands for. The WASP (I’ve learned this year from this site only) apparently stands for Williams, Amherst, Swarthmore, Pomona. I guess it’s for private school rich kids who want to go to a tiny expensive college? I don’t know because I don’t run in circles where those schools are discussed. We’re just low class public school people. |

it's Bowdoin. and FWIW, these tiny expensive schools usually have huge endowments per student and offer more aid than a lot of places. My kid got into BC with zero aid and Williams with 40k in aid last year. |
A few of these colleges appear in this (older) Forbes article, along with William's, which may suggest some similarities: https://www.forbes.com/sites/nataliesportelli/2017/04/26/10-expensive-colleges-worth-every-penny-2017/ |
Hi fellow potential Swarthmore parent! My kid also hoping for Swat Friday would possibly ED2 to Bowdoin or Hamilton. Wash U is interesting - urban and bigger but a fantastic school of course. Good luck to your kid! |
Bowdoin needs to be mentioned for purposes of this thread because there is an ED disadvantage; it has a much lower unhooked ED admit rate and higher proportion of athletes in comparison to any “non-WASP” SLAC. |
Good luck with SWAT. If it comes to that, do not ED2 to Bowdoin: ED2 apps need to go down a rung. Much better chances ED2 at WashU and then Hamilton (in that order). |
This makes zero sense. Kids apply to Vandy RD because they don’t want to be bound, |
And you would be incredibly lucky to do so. It's a great school. |
