Is it time to quit drinking?

Anonymous
I had to stop when I could no longer sleep. I love alcohol, and it’s been tough. But honestly, it’s just worth it anymore. I had one drink a few weeks ago and slept terribly, woke up hungover, and the entire next day was a waste. I’m not young anymore.

Yep! I didn’t at first but now I do.

Yeah I would think the GLP would eliminate those cravings completely, like food noise.

Just stop for a few months and then try try again.

Stop GLP or stop drinking? I only drink this like once in awhile. Likely more around the holidays but other than that, I probably drink once a month if that.

That makes no sense. That’s not how it works according to my Endo. She said it has reduced alcohol cravings in patients she considered borderline/functional alcoholics but it’s not like it makes alcohol intolerable (it doesn’t make food intolerable, does it?)

I don’t have headaches as much as I’m just completely exhausted the next day, and it’s a lost day. In fact, I’m often still tired on day 2. This happens if I drink more than a glass of wine, even if I eat, drink water, get plenty of sleep, etc.

I look around me and others my age seem to be able to handle drinking. What am I doing wrong?

Stop after one glass. If that's difficult, you have a different problem.

Are you the tee totaller from above? Lolz

Part of aging, I guess.

Yes, bummer

Switch to Zepbound, it will eliminate your cravings, on ozempic you still get cravings. Maybe talk to your prescriber. I was a huge drinker and now I drink maybe one glass a month. Also, wine may hit you harder because of the sugar. If you have one drink switch to vodka or tequila, it usually doesn't cause a hangover.

Had two drinks last night .. On Zep & I’m very sluggish today.

Def time for me to kick the booze.

My general take is that if you're asking this question, the answer is almost certainly yes.

Yes, it's time to quit or just drink on infrequent special occasions. That's what your body is telling you.

It will start to affect you more and will age you. I see people in their 50s that I know drink and even smoke and they look haggard. They are upper middle class and active (like golfers) but there's a look. Kind of red, tired, kind of defeated looking--they probably have hangovers. It definitely affects moods. If drinking a lot, bloated.

There is also an issue your liver with drinking and being on HRT. Something about how the estrogen goes through the liver (even if a patch) and when you drink the alcohol supersedes it.

Not OP and 5 years younger but in the same boat--if anything I like to drink even more on my GLP-1. Op, I'm trying to limit my drinking to one night a week, I may stop entirely- it wreaks havoc on my sleep, I can't exercise the next few days, etc. But, drinking can be so fun, especially after 5 days in office, a million things going on with my 4 kids etc. And, I have no desire to do any drug of any sort, including edibles so makes giving up alcohol that much harder. A year ago, I wrapped up 18 months of sobriety. I felt and looked better until the stress of my new job caught up with me and I started gaining weight rapidly--thus the micro-dosing, low dose Gl-1 6 months ago which has been a God send.

Good luck OP--if you figure it out, please share it with the rest of us. You are not alone in your struggle,

I'm on zep and love drinking the same

Can’t imagine combining alcohol with HRT and glp is a great idea. Of course your body can’t handle all that at once.

Personally, I don’t drink wine more than a few times a year these days. Even one glass of red ruins the next day. OTOH, I had three mixed drinks the other night and was fine the next day. Go figure.
