She distanced herself from Dr. Oz when he ran for the Senate. She openly said she did not support his politics and that she wished he would just focus on health.

Oh yeah she's not a grifter but all her partners are grifters. Sure.

Dr Phil is like TV crack for old white ladies with fupas in the Midwest

Don't you have homework?

In defense of Oprah, she has bought us a lot of crap people, but she has also done a lot of good. I was actually just listening to a podcast yesterday, I did not realize it was Oprah‘s studio that bought the Duggers down. They were I believe, inviting some of the Duggers on her show and I guess they do due diligence and they were the ones that uncovered the buried police report about Josh molesting his sisters. They bought it to light so without that Josh would probably be walking free and we’d probably continue to have 20 Duggar spinoffs haunting the airways.

She also did a pretty bad ass move with the meat industry, a long time ago. Meat industry is one of the most powerful industries in the country, and people have tried to take them down for irresponsible practices. But they like the most major industries are pretty bullet proof. Anyway, when the whole mad cow disease was happening in the 90s, Oprah made a joke on her show and said she wouldn’t be eating meat. Meat sales plummeted and the meat lobby sued her.

She could’ve easily just settled, but she said, not today. She went ahead with a lawsuit, even going so far as moving her show to wherever the suit was. She showed up in court every day, etc. and she won. Pretty bad ass for a Black woman to take down one of the most powerful industries in the country at least for a minute.

Also, the today show should be responsible for Dr. oz too. After he got famous from Oprah, they would have him on for years as a regular. They probably did more damage than she did in normalizing him.

I saw his TV show a handful of times (I'm a sucker for an avuncular man with a soft southern accent, I admit), I sort of knew about controversies about some of the shows he did, I knew he was or had become MAGA (I know he's not licensed, but I have trouble wrapping my brain around how someone can get a PhD in clinical psych and be MAGA). I did NOT know he's scored an invite to join an ICE raid (completely disgusting) but apparently he really irritated the bankruptcy judge plenty. I started wishing he would be enough of a con man to get prosecuted, but then I realized he'd be pardoned anyway. Sounds like the bankruptcy itself was a con--or, as Dr. Phil put it in an email he had deleted but which the other side managed to recover, a "gangster move."

What a bigoted, ignorant comment!

No, it’s a correct comment. NP

+1 I am not necessarily an Oprah fan but I don't think she's as horrible as people are making her out to be. She donated 10million to communities impacted by COVID, and she funds a boarding school in South Africa for underprivileged girls.

Oprah is an insufferable ahole. She gave us many charlatans.

Par for the course here. Whatever Dr. Phil's legal issues, it can't be denied that he has straightened out a lot of very disturbed individuals who came on his show with common sense solutions.

There is no proof any of this is true. His shows are full of a lot of fake acting. His show made it seem he could fix people/dysfunctional families with one show and occassionally some follow up but that's a load of bs.

Dr Phil seemed normal at first but over the years, he used some very questionable, and some might say, abusive tactics. He became - or maybe just let us see- that he’s an &sshole.

I used to love Oprah but not only did she unleash these two con men on us, I’m entirely unimpressed with how little she has done with all her money. Imagine being one of the richest people in the world, having no heirs, and not being very charitable. It’s weird.

Taking payment to stump for Kamala was the very last straw for me. She should have done that for free. No celebrity should take money for campaigning.

She built a fan base because she was so likable and nice but her actions since ending her show make me think she’s not as good a person as I thought.

This. Who would believe that a 45 min show (that is for entertainment purposes) is fixing anyone? It’s for entertainment. He’s as good as Maury Pauvich or Jerry Springer.

Hmm. Where's your proof that his shows are "full of a lot of fake acting"? We'll wait.

I think that lawsuit where she moved locations to film was where she encountered Dr Phil. He was a jury consultant, right?

NP: the end of every show has a disclaimer stating the show is for entertainment purposes, not for professional counseling or therapy - as the credits are rolling. It’s like thinking Judge Judy is really acting like a judge.

I think she actually is! We were recruited to be on her show and it would have been a binding decision IIRC. We didn’t do it.

You have to consent to her essentially doing binding arbitration while pretending to be a judge. So it’s real… but it’s also not.
