MCPS forcing Algebra 1 MCAP retake in 12th grade?

Beware of hyper acceleration, parents.

No, it shows MCPS incompetence. If it was a graduation requirement to have higher MCAP scores for a grade 9 test, why would the school not flag it before three years had elapsed?
And why would their math dept let a kid enroll MV calculus which is a college level math class if they were not college material?

I’m sure 745 is not a fail.

Passing is 750.

It's 36 easy questions. Take it in one class period and be done.

Because 60% is a passing score for a class

It’s the exact opposite of fair to waive the requirement for some students and not others.

It was only waived because they did Algebra online during COVID and there was no way to administer the test. Your kid could have done it online that year and didn't. My kid has an exemption.

The requirement was waived for MCPS students in class of ‘26. OP’s dc is a senior in MCPS.

No, incorrect. It was waived for anyone taking Algebra during covid. On my child's transcript it clearly states it was waived and they don't graduate this year.

I didn’t say the waiver only covers the class of ‘26. The waiver covered multiple years.

Someone at school has messed up. It is not required to pass the assessment

It is to boost numbers of students who took it prior to HS and didn’t pass; therefore, still having an adverse effect on that school’s state report card data.

Yes, so all you need to enroll in a super high level math class is a passing grade, yet the kid can’t graduate with that same passing grade that is deemed sufficient to enroll in that high level math class?

Seems pretty illogical to me.

MCAP is state policy.

Course placement is school/county policy

My kid is a senior and almost everyone failed the algebra 1 MCAP over covid. At my kids' MS I think only 10% passed. So typical MCPS still moved everyone along and waived the requirement.
