I hate to say it, but some coaches love aggressive ball hogs. Some coaches see the kid as a good player who loves the game more, who has intangible skills that can’t be coached. Ball hogs can be seen as game changers.
Hell we even had a coach who only would stop practice if the ball hog messed up in order to let them redo the play, while the rest of the players were treated like they weren’t even there. (This was in soccer with high level coaches). Then, they promoted the ball hog. Then, the coach tells the kids, “anyone can pass the ball, we want kids to make an impact on the game!” It’s shitty team work, but yeah… ball hogs usually get noticed and get more attention from the coach, on more teams than you’d think! |
