Not all kids at Ivies have internships. I have friends kids reach out to me many times both from Ivies and non-Ivies. Also, some kids may be looking for internships better than those your kid has. I am happy to help if I can. |

What?
I didn’t read the article but back in the 1990’s everyone got internships through a friend of their dad’s. That’s just how the old boys club worked. |
| I wish I could give my kid some contacts! |
| Why wouldn't you help your kids? My mom helped with my college and grad school applications and helped me find jobs. Not a big deal. |
Read the article rather than OP’s title. Totally different. The article is talking about parents calling/emailing companies and hiring managers instead of the students doing it, that kind of thing. Which, yeah, that’s dumb, don’t do that. OP made it sound like parents shouldn’t use their networks to help their kids, which they absolutely should. |

Parents don’t need to do this; there are consulting firms that can help students build their résumés and arrange internship as well.
|
That is helping as they are paying for it. |
And why pay strangers if you are capable of helping your kid. If kid is smart and capable to do the job, then no qualms if connections via parents or others. |
| This is child dependent, at least that's my experience. Oldest child got herself paid internships every summer in college. Next child is struggling to reach out to employers/labs. They are both equally smart, both raised by the same person - me!, both attended UMD, but they are obviously going to have different experiences with internships. |
| I helped our son. I texted him a message, you need an internship. How’d I do? |
| Nothing new. This routinely happened as far back as 50 years ago. As now, not true for all cases. Kids and families do vary. |

Connections is one thing.
Crowdsourcing lists of places to look for internships, asking what majors are best for getting internships, preparing applications, etc. are other things. 18 year olds can be in the military. 19 year olds are combat eligible. Why can't UMC Larlo and Larla at least look for their own internships? Mom and Dad, land your helicopter. Marlo is flying a chopper, |
You and your friends all went the same route as your parents? The same type of jobs? I got my internship at the Attorney General’s Office on my own. Posters will probably say it’s different now but I doubt it. I’m sure there are a majority of students getting it done on their own. It feels good to get a top internship on your own. |
Yes, it’s been this way forever. Don’t understand OP’s post |
