Moms with 2 kids (or more) close together- how did you handle pregnancy?

Anonymous
I am 6 mo pregnant with #2 and have an 18 month old. So far it has been fine. In fact, I am probably in better shape for this pregnancy since I have a toddler to lift and chase around. I am sore at night but during the day I don't have time to pay attention to the aches and pains. Now, once #2 ARRIVES - that's what really freaks me the hell out.

The first several weeks were a little overwhelming (mine are 22 months apart), I'm not going to lie... but now that DS is 2.5 months, it feels like we have been doing this forever now. It's almost routine and it's not THAT insane (although it does have its moments, for sure). DS is a great sleeper though, which helps... not sure if I would feel the same way if I was on no sleep.

I am pregnant and my DD is only 11mths old. They will be 18mths apart and I am wondering the same thing, OP. It's been 3mths but wow---what a haze. And Im the mom who posted about her 11mths old weighing 25.6lbs. I can barely carry her now. i dont know how it will work when I get bigger--and i dont mean carry her because I dont want to put her in a stroller but do things like lift her out of the bath tub. Eeeks.

If you are used to lifting/carrying your child on a regular basis, you should be able to do continue with no problem (unless you have a medical complication with the pregnancy that prevents you from lifting her).

I always continued lifting my other kids while pregnant and they were a lot bigger than yours. You are probably just having difficulty now because of 1st trimester fatigue, which should get better. Heck, I am 8 months pregnant and I still lift my 6-yr old every day & he weighs almost 50 lbs (and I'm 40, so no spring chicken!).

Well i am not strong.

I didn't mean to offend you! I was just saying that if you normally carry your child, you should still be able to do that, and maybe the reason you're having difficulty at the moment is just that you're fatigued, which is common in early pregnancy, and when your energy returns, you'll hopefully be able to lift her more easily.

I'm not very strong either, it's just that I'm used to lifting my kids. If you asked me to pick up a 50-lb bag of flour, I'm sure I couldn't possibly do it, but for some reason I can pick up my 48-lb child pretty easily!

Thanks. It really helps to hear from moms like you.
