ETA for travel to London - needed or a scam

Anonymous
There are some 3rd party vendors that advertise to do it for you.

Make sure to use the proper link.

There are definitely some scam sites saying they will do it for you. I don't understand why anyone would use them. Use the official site/app. I was approved in less than 5 minutes.

The word is "gouge."

To be fair, these types of things are often surrounded by some sort of scam where somebody offers a "service" to get it for you and add on a $50 "expedited fee" or similar. Often if you google it those sponsored links show up above the official link.

It's still not a scam.

Agreed, but if you see a bunch of these scammer links when you search, trying to get your attention away from the official site, it's understandable why it might give you pause.

You definitely need it. No such thing was needed when I travelled to the U.K in 2019. It is very easy, the best way to apply is via their app. This past Sunday I got them for my family, we are exiting Heathrow to travel to Gatwick for a connecting flight. It was approved in 2-3 minutes and is valid for 2 years.

* Remember to brush your hair because you will be taking a picture, wish I had.

As others have noted, it's real and you need it, but that doesn't make it less of a scam. It's just that the scammers are the British government.

It’s been all over various websites OP.

Godspeed on your travels.

It is 1000% real. Use the official site though not others.

Just like the US government which has been charging Brits for tourist visas for years.

Exactly. Quid pro quo.

Who can I talk to to get a waiver?

Why would you need a waiver? If you have a UK visa you don't need the ETA. If you are a US citizen you just go to the website (already posted in this thread) and do the application and pay the small fee. It is good for 2 years.

Also, this is the program/fee that's for people like US citizens who already have visa waivers. The other path is to apply for a visa (for whatever reason you may have) and pay that (much higher) fee.
