+1 OP needs to open her listening ears. Kid should transfer definitely |
| I'll trade places with her in a heartbeat. I hate winter. |
| Way too soon. You’re an adult who raised their kid to adulthood. Are you seriously posting this? |
| Support her. |
What an unhelpful comment |
I hate MAGA and 100 degrees and humidity more. |
| She should apply to a few places and see where the chips fall. Just because she applies doesn't mean she has to make the move. |
| Is winter at Cornell that harsh? The majority of T20 or SLACs are in the north, with heavy snow. |
Who brought up Cornell? |
|
Op, you can avoid impeding this decision while still not "supporting" her decision. Do nothing. This is on her. If she's serious, she can do all the research, do the application and see what happens. She certainly doesn't have to go through with transferring, even if she gets in. Likely the very process of attempting to transfer will help her focus on: why she chose the original school and what she might do better to increase her happiness at the original school.
But again for you , I wouldn't do a single thing to help it happen. Except, confidentially know your financials to make sure you can afford it, if it were to happen. |
You’re also old, so there’s that. |
Can you provide more thoughts on how/in what way your DS thought Brown was a step down? My kid is interested in both, but leaning toward Brown because of all of the protests/police activity near Columbia. |

I’m guessing it’s Southern California. My DD did not really like SoCal either. She left and transferred to a NorCal school. As an east coast person, I rolled my eyes when DH would claim that Northern and Southern California are like different states. NorCal seems to have more in common culturally with Oregon and Washington than SoCal. The negatives about SoCal that I’ve noticed is an almost obsessive focus on appearance and looking instagram ready at any moment , and lack of serious intellectual thought except for art, music or film. I also prefer the more natural state of the NorCal beaches. . |
Kids at Brown are the exact same. |
