Maryland's millionaire exodus

Just out of curiosity, what is a millionaire? Do you have to make a million per year, or is it enough to have a million in assets, a much easier criterion, obviously?

First millionaire here - government breathing down my neck??? What a fucking joke. I breathe down it's neck. True, if I were a radical evangelist christian, I would prefer the rabidly Christian politicians of Virginia.

Language! No need for such talk. For God's sake, there are mothers on this site!

Why would you express such anger because someone dared express a differing opinion? I am sure there are plenty of "millionaires" in this area who are pleased with government involvement. Perhaps you earned your money as an overpaid government worker? Perhaps you have successfully sold $500 toilet seats to the feds? I would understand that if your success is owed to the contributions of millions of taxpayers, you might be pleased with government breathing down your neck, as long as they leave a few bills on the nightstand when you have happily provided service.

Whatever you opinion is, and for whatever reason you hold it, do not weaken your position by using foul language on a forum that we can assume has many ladies reading.

BTW: I am NOT a Christian, radical, or evangelist. My faith falls much more in line with my former neighbors in Montgomery County; however, I have found my new ones, whether Christian, Hindu, or whatever equally nice.

I think it is simply a million dollars in assets. This is an increasingly easy group to become a member. With all the dollars being printed we will ALL be millionaires soon.

Now, the question of what can be purchased with all those devaluated Federal Reserve Notes will be a far different story.

The "first millionaire" claims he "breathes down government's neck"?

Sounds like a cozy little relationship he and government have.

If government is by and for the people, is he breathing down my neck? Sounds like another federal worker to me, getting wealthy off the opporessed American taxpayer.

Funny you should mention that. The article says millionaires, but the statistic behind the article is about people with $1 million taxable annual income.

I was the person who asked. By the assets measure, I am a millionaire; maybe even twice over. I am also a retiree who is not at all sure we have enough to last for the time we have left. The income criterion makes a lot more sense if the word is to keep a modicum of the meaning associated with it from days gone by.
