I enjoy several authors who put out 2 short books a year. It's possible they use a ghostwriter, but the books are inexpensive (like $5 to $8 for an ebook) so it's hard to see the profit model where you could pay multiple people. I think they're just very disciplined and treat writing like a job - not just the full time hours but the planning and project management aspects. Doorstops like Wheel of Time took years between installments. The author had an assistant keeping track of the details and his wife's editing was a huge factor in his success, but they weren't ghostwriten. |

John Connolly's detective book series runs to something like 20 books
Anthony Horowitz has several series of books, Alex Rider, The Hawthorne Mysteries, etc etc etc |
Ali Hazelwood is another example of this. She's on sabbatical from a job as a college professor and writes all day, every day. |
Balzac? Dickens? Thackeray? |
| Ok, I’ll bite - Anne Tyler, Ann Patchett, Elin Hildebrand |
huge numbers of books, but not "lengthy series" I don't think any of those authors have series do they? Marian Keyes. Tons and tons of books by her out in the universe |
| John Sandford and his "Prey" series. |
|
2 authors I have enjoyed, not the same genre you brought up, but have a lot of books:
Bryce Courtenay Abraham Verghese |
|
Maybe not if your tastes lean towards literary fiction, but some of these prolific authors are good.
John Sandford has said that he works with other authors on his books because he had achieved a level of success and visibility and working with him would help those authors grow in their career as writers, which is admirable. |
I think Brandon Sanderson helps finish up other series. Someone mentioned him above. That's a good talent to have. Though I suppose AI and ghost writers are fine nowadays as long as you keep the "lore" straight, and the worldbuilding, etc. Maybe that's what OP implies. |
| Agatha Christie |
Verghese is great but does not have a lot of books. He has 4 total and sometimes goes years between publishing. |
| Anthony Trollope wrote something like 47 novels and MANY of them are over 500 pages. I've read about 25 of them and love his writing so much. |
But did he keep his Lore straight? I mean he kept it Victorian and not Victorian Steam Punk |
Can you elaborate on what you love about his writing? I only ask because a bunch of my favorite contemporary writers have died over the past 5 yrs or so and I need new material. |
