Just to clarify something, most students do not take SAT in 10th grade. There really is no point in sitting for an official test in 10th, as most students improve over time in both sections. The final attempt should be before the college application deadline. So, October or December of senior year. Though, I'd certainly recommend trying to be done before then if possible.

Best to be done with it Spring of Junior year (March dates work well). Pretty standard schedule is student studies over summer before Junior year, makes first attempt in Fall, studies over winter break and takes second time Spring semester.

You can do that with PSAT10 and SAT practice tests.

Ds took it in Spring of Junior year after AP English .. got Superscore of 1530 and called it done.
