Why is IB a good career option?

The financial services sector has resisted recent economic downturns post-2009, which has also led to compensation outperformance. It is popular with college students because they've been in a Bull market most of their lives. They don't realize Wall Street jobs can get smacked around in a recession too.

Does AI command the authority of a 6'4 dude in a fancy suit with a firm handshake? One who will drop everything at 11:45 at night on Friday to spend the rest of the weekend working 24 hours a day to fix whatever problem some Type A has identified as a crisis?

How do you think AI will fill in for the very human need of the deal teams to micromanage underlings while under stress?

You must not know these guys like I do. They will look at the bonus pool and realize one less mouth to feed means more for them, and it's worth spending 5 minutes on Friday night to ask AI to find the problem and fix it than lord over an underling. Greed trumps ego.

The crappy and more uncertain the economy and job market becomes, the more every last college student is jumping on this train.
I would not count on this career path. It's becoming completely impossible if you don't 1)have a nepo contact in the industry OR 2)have a college 4l.0 and a lot of luck.

Hardly new….everyone with that profile since the 80s

Not sure. That's why I chose consulting instead.

Kids want to go into IB so they can hang out with kids like this:

It’s as much a social reason as it is a job reason.

The actual job is horrible
