| Our ADW school has around 20-29 kids per class/grade. In K-2 there are two actual teachers in each class, and sometimes a floater aide. |
| 27 is way too big. And yes — there ARE behavioral issues at Catholic schools. Significant ones. |
Agree that’s big. Which schools have significant problems? Ours (not in DC) does not. We are moving to the DC area over the summer and are looking at schools. |
| Our ADW has 15 in kindergarten and 27 in older grades but our public is 25-27 so they're actually comparable. |
Many parochial schools hit capacity during and after COVID, so 20+ class sizes are more common than they used to be. I personally haven’t seen significant behavioral issues at our Catholic school. Every time I read on here about a parent who has a child in public school with a kid who throws chairs, I’m grateful we have a parish school that we love and can use. |
The PP claiming significant issues never gave any detail so can’t be taken seriously. |
| Many of the parochial schools in VA are in the low 20s. I know Saint Leo’s is a 2 track school in Virginia and they are in the teens for some classes. OLGC has three kindergartens with very small classes between 13 and 15 kids and then turns into two classes for first through eighth with 20 to 26 kids per class. St. Luke’s school is a one track school and I believe the class size ranges anywhere from 14 kids to 26. I know Saint Mary’s in Alexandria tends to have higher enrollment in the mid 20s. So it depends. Most of these classes have an assistant teacher. It is also quite amazing to see how many of these kids are able to follow the rules. |

A consideration is age.
While a class in 5th grade may have 24-27, does that class have more specials, like computers or a writing class? While some non-certified by Catholic standards people are in the room, does the K class have 2 adults? Does the 2nd & 3rd class have some support-maybe at the vert start or the end of the day? |
| There is no single answer to this. Every school is different. Look at the ratio of the schools you are interested in; otherwise the exerise is fruitless. |
Which school are you specifically familiar with? |
| I know a lot of them were given maximum enrollment numbers by the county when they were opened, due to Neighbor concerns about traffic. One of the ones in Vienna was subject to this so only has max of 18 per class. |
