My kid is the same. There are 1000s of schools -- we can't consider all of them and weather is as good a place to start ruling out as any. |
So if they got in say UGA or Emory and also Indiana or BC, you wouldn’t let them choose lol. A job is different than college. |
| I think it's silly. I grew up in Florida and went to school in Chicago. Yes, winter sucks but spring and fall are glorious. I never wanted to go back to Florida weather. |
| No. My kids refused to apply to Southern schools or any really hot places. |
Ha. My kids ruled out the South. They would do Northeast, Midatlantic or California. They are in New England and love it. |
Same. Farthest south was in-state VA. My kid is in Rhode Island. |
Yes agree but winter is November - April so bulk of the year. |
I’m a full grown adult and would never live in Chicago. I love it in the summer but I have an extreme aversion to cold and would be miserable in Chicago. Climate impacts your mood more than people realize. |
Didn't make them do anything. Weather is a tiny factor. She wants a reputable school with a great combination of academics and social, big sports environment, and plenty of internship opportunities. Applying to a bunch of Big 10 schools in the Midwest, mid Atlantic, north. Only a couple of southern warm weather schools but those aren't her top choices. |
| Mines the opposite. Wants to go to school in the northeast. To each their own. I’d focus more on the why. For mine, she views the shoots in the warm areas as party school with unserious kids. We all know there are serious schools in warm areas and party schools in cold areas, but getting to the why with her helped us talk about schools like auburn, Florida and a few in ca. |
| I’m another whose kid refused the south. But no, I didn’t make her reconsider. There are so many good schools that it was actually a relief to be able to cut down the list! |
| We live in the South and my kid was born and raised here. They refused to consider to cold weather schools. A cold winter visit to several schools confirmed their preference. |
Here too. I didn't "make" my kid apply anywhere. They had agency over their list. It's their life. |
| Cold weather or abortion access, you choose. |
| 30 years ago I refused to apply to warm weather schools (I grew up there and was done with all that). Other than asking me to apply to one in-state school in case financial aid wasn't enough, my parents didn't make me reconsider that. I would do the same if the situation were reversed. |
