| My 8th grader does rock climbing. He is on a team but some of his school friends do it on their own. It's a sport but not a team sport in same sense as soccer (which he didn't enjoy). |
Who said anything about being average? He’s looking for some fun activities. |
| He can go to the gym |
| Mountain biking. It’s a whole world. Not just a sport. My kid hated team field sports. |
Agreed |

I do not have a boy but I do have high schoolers, and if he’s somewhat academic: debate/constitution team/mock trial
If he’s a little fruity: theater, choir Nerdy: band/robotics Extroverted and popular just not sporty: student government/leadership |
I agree but OP is looking for an alternative to TikTok and Roblox, not an alternative to being an average player on a rec sports team. Lots of good suggestions here. |
| Also - all the sports you mention are team ball sports. There are lots of sports that are more individual, he might not like the competitive pressure of team sports. Cross country, track, rowing, swim, golf. |

For my boys: fishing, cooking, chess, poker, skateboarding, guitar
Other kids I know: D&D, robotics, babysitting, dog walking, theater, 3D printing, cooperative board games, painting, scouts, martial arts |
| My kid joined the cybersecurity club at school. He wasn't into coding but he liked working on a team to solve problems. His team won a state award one year too. |
| Robotics or it’s not too late to start a brass instrument. Those are easier to start later. |
| Martial arts, chess, robotics (check out FIRST — team without the sports), theatre (tech or on-stage), Service orgs, cooking, photography |
