The time to sell the building would have been when Marriott wanted to buy it for their HQ several years ago, and they refused.

Been there more times than I can count. I used to work next door at Fannie Mae. My husband and I have been going there for date nights for over 20 years. We stopped going after the pandemic. Sorry to see it go.

I work next-door at the Marriott, and we could not do group luncheons or dinners there, even though it was right next-door because the space did not allow it. If you'd call to make a reservation, you could not make a reservation for more than four, or maybe it was 6, people. I always thought that that was a miss because with such a large employer next door, you would think you try to get that business.
However, it was a really nice restaurant for an intimate dinner and my husband and I have gone there and enjoyed the food.
I will miss it.

Met a friend in Bethesda for lunch the other day - we both worked in downtown Bethesda for 20+ years and used to go there a ton. She specifically requested we not go there because it had gotten so bad. Since Covid but continuing all this time. I work from home now so I hadn’t been in a while but it was always good albeit overpriced. Has anyone been lately?

Went often and it was still very good. Reddit is saying there was an issue with a health inspection, however.

Did you read that post? It was clearly a joke, it was someone who pooped his pants.

I read the post..
Let’s hope it was a joke.

This one? It's obviously a joke

I have a little bit of an insider source and the specifics are a bit tragic. Bus boy was recovering from a nasty hangover on a Sunday brunch shift. Just so happened that was the day for their health rating reevaluation (previously failed one but were able to get it nixed from the record and just go for a re-eval due to a technicality). He went to sit down in the walk-in to quell a pounding headache and trusted a fart. A hangover fart. Blows out his pants and it squirts it all over the floor and somewhere up the wall he was sitting against. He starts to clean it(and himself) up when the door opens with not just his manager but the city inspector as well. As he’s there, butt ass naked, seemingly smearing shit on the wall and floor with a dishrag next to uncovered produce. So yeah… hard to recover from that.

There’s no way a restaurant permanently shut down over something like this.

I read a comment on a blog that Hillstone may be planning to reopen with a different restaurant concept.

It was our favorite place pre-COVID. After COVID, it became so difficult to get seated that we rarely dined there unless it was odd hours. The last few times we were really disappointed with our food so we eventually gave up. It’s a shame. We miss what it used to be.

I was there for the fart that tricked them. Yes. It did happen.

The restaurant is blaming parking (BS, there is a county lot across the street) and staffing issues (probably the truth).

We always enjoyed it. It was part of the group that once had Houston's in Georgetown.

It was cute - traditional decor, cozy vibe. Welcome change from sleek places.

That veggie burger. Man. Where to find one similar?!

Will miss it (or knowing it’s there lol as only went few times)

It only got better after COVID, that is why it was so hard to get into. Packed everyday even the day before when I went for lunch. There was no indication it was my last meal there!

Where and when was Fannie Mae located in Bethesda?

A similar veggie burger doesn’t exist, but there are recipes online
