Almost all top schools with ED2, have a lower admit rate for 2 than 1 (Vanderbilt; UChicago; Rice, Emory; WashU)

And they are getting all the kids rejected in the Ivy early rounds. So competitive group. UVA’s EA has a more competitive applicant base than its ED round. They have said so.

Chicago takes a lot of kids in ED2. Top kids get rejected by Ivies and get scared and decide to ED2 Chicago as a safer route.

Emory seems to get ED2 kids who were rejected by Duke and Vanderbilt in ED1

I'd love to know the percentage of ED2 deferrals are accepted RD.

If I were admissions, I would see a student's willingness to commit ED2 as a strong signal of interest, and therefore a good bet re yield. Definitely better than a similar kid who only applied RD.

So it's possible that an ED2 deferral still conveys an advantage over waiting until RD?

I’ve heard that with ED 1 for sure, not sure about ED2. I’ve been told by counselor that if a kid is a likely admit or waitlist in RD, ED1 deferred can help keep you out of the waitlist pile in RD
