Recommendations for Preschool/Daycare for a sweet, loving SPD Child.

Anonymous
I am interested in finding playdates for my DC (preferrably w/ childrent btw the ages of 3-4 ) who has SPD. Any other similarly situated children who would benefit from short-supervised playdates are welcomed. I live near the Mclean/Falls Church area.

Any other recommendations for preschool (nonsectarian) or daycare accepting part-time positions that are open to taking children with SPD?

Not the PP but my child was in an inclusion program in MoCo called Karasik. It's run by the Arc of Montgomery and it's in Silver Spring. They do full time or part time child care and have an accredited preschool program. They are well versed with special needs kids as well as non-labeled kids. My "sensory" child really thrived there. They have activities that specifically help sensory issues....a big sensory table with different activities. The children aren't required to do anything they don't want to do and if a material being used (like sand or slime) is offputting to a child they can choose another activity.

They even have noise cancelling headphones for the children who are sensitive to sound to wear if the building is testing the fire alarms, etc. It was so cute to see them all playing blocks with their huge headphones on. It totally helped them though!

My DC is sensory defensive and is currently very fearful of other peer group. I am not sure how to introduce her to preschool (she is also 3), or whether I should wait another year to put her into preschool. Anyone out there who has a SPD kid afraid of children her age???

Not to hijack this thread, but are these preschool recommendations good for a child that may "struggle" at a traditional setting, but is not qualified for special education?

Karasik definitely would be a good fit for this type of child.

If you are in DC, check out Bridges pre-school. It is amazing!

Unfortunately, we live in NVA (Arlington). Any other recommendations?

Sometimes even if a child doesn't qualify for the school district's SN preschool you can volunteer your child to be a model peer. Check with childfind. The preschool would still be free.

OP here. Thanks for all your responses. Currently there is a preschool opening at the Maddux School. I know the commute will be a stretch, but any thoughts or feedback on this school would be greatly appreciated.
